Why Choose An Out-of-network Provider Or Cash-based Practice?

After two decades of practicing as a physical therapist, and started with traditional traveling jobs covering outpatient, in-patient, subacute, long-term care, home health, and private practice setting with one goal: To help make a difference in people’s lives. The regulations set by insurance companies regarding what modalities are allowed, how many visits we have to treat a particular condition based on a diagnosis code, and how we must document patient care and progress to be reimbursed become our new reality. Our focus got shifted from working for patients to working for insurance companies. When these challenges are present, it gets harder to provide patients with the quality care they deserve. One thing that remained the same is that patients are more likely to succeed with physical therapy treatments if they invest in their health.

Osteopractic Physical Therapy of Central Indiana (OPTCI) is a fee-for-service practice, out-of-network with any insurance companies, which allows us to provide a much higher quality of care delivered in less time. Going out-of-network can enable us to provide more dedicated one-on-one time with our patients, decreasing the required care frequency and resulting in more effective and efficient outcomes with our treatment. We delivered a complete 1:1 evaluation and a hands-on approach to evidence-based treatment with a fellowship-trained Doctor of Physical Therapy. We took additional years of learning and education to get certified to provide high-quality care. One-on-one hands-on treatment is much more effective. Furthermore, we disagree with having patients complete exercises in the clinic that they can do independently at home after in-depth instructions and education during encounters.
A physical therapist who practices fee-for-service is not in insurance companies’ networks because they won’t lower the standard of service they provide. By cutting out the third-party insurance provider, you can seek the most appropriate care you deserve and regain the ability to make decisions.

In the United States, national health expenditure could grow 7.1 percent over the next five years, from 2022 to 2027. The statistics reveal that the healthcare system is getting huge with time. Yet healthcare is necessary, but it’s heavy on many people’s pockets. But some network providers can help you lay off some financial burdens caused by the healthcare services. The network provider has a different health insurance system with a specific affiliation of physicians. Therefore, your health care services are considered out of network if you acquire them from a provider other than these.

How insurance covers out-of-network providers?

What categories of professionals you can see and the amount you’ll have to pay if you travel outside the network depends on the kind of insurance plan you’re a member of. For instance, if you are a member of a health maintenance organization (HMO), you are typically limited to using its network of doctors. You may need to reside or work there to qualify for insurance. Except in emergencies or with a recommendation from your primary care physician, you are typically not reimbursed for out-of-network care (PCP). If you are a member of a favored service supplier (PPO), you will pay less when you see a doctor in the PPO’s network. However, you may visit a doctor who is not in the PPO’s channel on your own at a greater expense.

Fee for Service / Cash-Based Practice

Let’s suppose you pay a monthly premium for health insurance. Then why should you forego insurance or pay cash for physical treatment instead? There are many advantages to doing so, and we want to inform you about them. First, many health insurance plans don’t fully cover a physical therapy visit’s expense. If the cost of physical therapy on a cash-only basis seems extravagant, remember that many patients still have co-pays and deductibles per physical therapy visit, although with insurance coverage. Therefore, whether you employ your insurance benefits or not, you will typically have to pay for sessions outside the budget. The overall standard of the treatments and the valuation you receive at every visit vary considerably.

Consider these things if you are going in-network clinic:

1. A physical therapy clinic must consent to accept an insurance company’s sometimes-low rates to be considered in-network with those carriers. The clinic will therefore attempt to offset the decreased insurance rates by seeing more patients. This implies that a therapist’s patient load may be doubled, tripled, or quadrupled in an hour.

2. Poor continuity of treatment and not exclusive physical therapy session may have the following effects: Less time with the qualified physical therapist, the subject matter specialist you sought for.

3. Every appointment has a different physical therapist, resulting in dispersed, inconsistent care. Your session may include periods under the supervision of a physical therapist assistant or athletic trainer.

Evidence shows that paying cash for physical therapy and receiving early treatment lowers healthcare expenses. Research examining patient records showed that paying cash for biological treatment was preferable to insurance-based physical therapy. The advantages of our payment model allow complete transparency.

Take your time to consider the actual value of receiving 1:1 hands-on quality care and the entire time spent with the Doctors of Physical Therapy. In addition, you may just need a maintenance program if you are showing up and checking the exercise list provided to you. Considering all the items mentioned above will help you make an informed decision about where to receive your physical therapy treatment.

Can I Submit My Physical Therapy Receipts To My Insurance Company To Obtain Reimbursement For My Out-of-pocket Expenses?

Most non-Medicare patients can self-submit their therapy receipts to their insurance company for reimbursement. Receipts are provided to all clients who request them. The receipts include all necessary billing codes for our clients to send claims to their insurance companies. We can help check your insurance coverage. As a courtesy, we will file your claim to your insurance for reimbursement after the visit. You will be reimbursed directly from your insurance company according to your out-of-network benefits.

Medicare Beneficiaries: The US government has particular and interesting laws that control where Medicare beneficiaries can spend their money. OPTCI is not a participating Medicare provider; therefore, we can only accept Medicare beneficiaries who do not want Medicare billed for physical therapy services. The patient must make this request upfront and of the patient’s own free will. This means that if you are adamant about seeing the therapists at OPTCI, fully understanding that we are not an enrolled Medicare provider, we can still see you if you request upfront that you do not want Medicare billed or involved in your physical therapy care. If you do want to use your Medicare benefits, we will gladly refer you to a Medicare provider in your area.
