What Is Pilates?
Pilates Yields Numerous Benefits
At Osteopractic Physical Therapist of Central Indiana (OPTCI) owned and operated by licensed physical therapists- medical professionals who are recognized movement and exercise specialists. Our employees are physical therapists trained in both fitness and rehabilitative Pilates. Our private sessions are open to everyone in the community.
When practiced faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits. The focused breathing alone helps increase lung capacity and improve circulation. You will naturally develop a deeper appreciation for the way your body was designed to move. You will be stronger, with better balance and posture. As posture improves, so does confidence.
For physical therapy patients, OPTCI has a team approach to treatment, and it is a key to our success. For example, if a patient is receiving physical therapy treatment sessions, he/she can benefit by doing Pilates concurrently to speed the healing process. After physical therapy is no longer needed, Pilates helps maintain one’s goals.
What To Expect On Your First Pilates Visit
Your first Pilates session will include a discussion with your instructor about your orthopedic history, and other activities that you may be involved with.
The first session is generally gentle – to ease you into this beneficial exercise form. Your instructor will closely monitor your technique to keep you in a safe exercise zone – and to help you achieve your best. You will be guided through proper breathing techniques and postural alignment, and you’ll begin learning how to move and engage your core properly.
